The international animal protection organization Mercy For Animals —whose goal is for animals to be respected and protected—has launched a campaign called “Alsea Without Cages,” seeking to pressure the transparency of Alsea —a leading restaurant operator in LATAM and Spain—about the use of cages in your chicken egg supply chain. Let us remember that for the production of chicken eggs, a system is used in which these animals are deprived of their freedom and in cages, which causes them not only physical, but also mental suffering. And unfortunately, in Mexico 90% of chicken egg production is still carried out through this practice. That is why, since 2016, Alsea has committed to stop consuming eggs from caged hens in all of its global operations, a goal that was planned to be achieved by 2025. However, after seven years, the multinational has not shared information about the progress of your aforementioned commitment. Given this, Mercy For Animals is making efforts to make Alsea more transparent and achieve the set goal. We tell you how it could be possible! Mercy For Animals Launches the Alsea Without Cages Campaign A campaign for transparency: “Alsea without Cages” Alsea—popularly recognized for managing businesses such as Burger King, Chili's, Starbucks, and more—is not being an example of compliance in terms of socially responsible commitments. Proof of this is that in its last report it mentioned only a figure for the supply of eggs from cage-free systems in a portion of its operations in Mexico, and did not provide information on its progress in the LATAM countries in which it operates, including all their brands.
Through Alsea Without Cages”, Alsea is seeking to publicly report the progress of its operations in this area. And it should be noted that Mercy For Animals is not the only one interested in such action, in fact, there is a current petition on the Change.org site where signatures are being collected from the public in favor of the cause. Alsea is expected to communicate in detail the measures it has implemented in all its restaurants and in all the countries in which it operates. Also, provide regular updates during the two years remaining to reach your final goal.
