Billion pesos, this is the amount that women spend more annually than men simply for being a woman. The reason? A purely natural circumstance that nothing and no one can modify: menstruation. But... what can change is said monumental expense. Let's take a look at what is happening in our country and how we came to have a situation that was invisible for years. Menstruation and VAT: the biggest enemies of women's economy Value Added Tax , better known as VAT , is an indirect tax burden that is applied to the final cost of goods and services, whether they are products such as clothing, electronic items, telephone services and food. Individuals and legal entities are required to pay this tax. VAT is something everyday for all Mexicans, however, at some point this charge was added to menstruation to become the biggest enemies of the economy of all women.
The situation came to light thanks to the #MenstruaciónDignaMéxico initiative , which estimated that women in our country allocate approximately 5% of their income to the purchase of menstrual management products, such as: Disposable and cloth sanitary pads.
